Our Story

Empowering Teaching and Learning Through Brain Science

Brain-Based Learning Academy (BBL Academy) is Asia's pioneering hub for neuroscience-informed education. We unite the science of learning and the art of teaching to uplift educators from preschool to adult education — creating classrooms and workplaces where both hearts and minds flourish.

Founded in 2026 by Professor Er Meng Hwa and four co-founders, BBL Academy was established to advance brain-based learning pedagogy as a paradigm shift in education. We integrate the latest insights from neuroscience, psychology, and the science of learning to equip educators with research-informed strategies that truly work.

Emeritus Professor at NTU with over 38 years in higher education and research. A visionary in engineering education reform and the driving force behind BBL Academy's mission to transform teaching through the science of learning.

Dr Lillian Koh

Director & Co-Founder

Lillian Koh, PhD brings over 34 years of expertise across education, research, and international advisory work — from the Ministry of Education and National Institute of Education (NTU), where she chaired the Center for Financial Literacy, to Director of Research at Curtin University Singapore and International Consultant to the World Bank. She founded Fintech Academy, driving IBF and ISCA-accredited fintech talent development in collaboration with universities and polytechnics, and has consulted for MOE Singapore, Academy of Singapore Teachers, National Healthcare Group, OECD, Pearson, Citigroup, UNESCO, and the Vietnam Ministry of Education & Training. She is Director of the Center for Research and Innovation at NTUitive (an NTU spin-off), serves on the boards of Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) Singapore and a NASDAQ-listed company, and co-authored Singapore: The Fintech Nation and the Springer International Handbook of Financial Literacy.
